In a DNA Isolation, what would the result be of adding excess sodium chloride?
Sodium binds to the negatively charged phosphates on the DNA backbone, thus stabilizing DNA by shielding the natural electrostatic repulsion of the negative charges. I use 5M NaCl in my reaction, but what would happen if I increased this significantly?
